we'll head up to the mountain, pick-up trucks and old guitars

It's been quite awhile since I've been charmed by an album, but that's the best way I can describe how I felt when I stuck Hayes Carll's Trouble in Mind in my CD player on the way to work this morning. Carll is a singer-songwriter from The Woodlands, Texas--most evocative town name ever--who's garnered comparisons to Dylan and Townes Van Sant, but I think he sounds most like Todd Snider. He's got a rockabilly alt-country thing going for him, and this album "sounds" Texas more than anything else I've heard in awhile. It makes me want to go barefoot out in the fields and throw on an old pair of jeans to go drinking at the closest thing we have to dive bar in this town.

I'm sharing "Girl Downtown" because it brings a smile to my face (and I want my romantic life to turn out like that) and "Faulkner Street" because it's my favorite song on the album.

Mmm, Texas. ♥

I am downloading these as I type. The tiny bit I've heard is gloriously Texas. Thank you. :D

Sometimes you just need to kick up your heels, you know? I think "Faulkner Street" was originally going to be on that Jensen disc I did a few years ago, but I had to shunt it to make room for something else.

In the privacy of my own home, yes. ;)

Shunted!

I am so lame today, sorry. :P

Oh yeah. The last fight my sister & I had was while watching the Justin Timberlake HBO show from a few years ago. I was saying how much I enjoyed dancing and my sister was like "so why don't you do it?" and we got into this whole big thing. See, I'm kind of awkward, and kind of fattish and those things mean that I should really only be dancing in the privacy of my bedroom. Especially since I get REALLY INTO IT, lol. Sometimes I have to turn all the pictures of family/photo ops down on their surfaces because I'm even too embarrassed to dance in front of them. :P

I think shunt is an awesome work; it means exactly what it sounds like. SHUNT.

I'm lame all the time, so you're in good company. ;)

*snugs you* Sometimes I envy NZ Orlando for how free he was. If he wanted to go crazy and dance or anything, he would. But I'm not like that and don't want to be like that. I'm quieter and more introverted and that's okay. I don't wish I was out clubbing or whatever, but if dancing at home makes me happy, then why not?

I have a bad tendency to add endings on to words so I have SHUNTLET in my head. Mini wee shunt. Cuteness.

I love how we can be lame together. :) I also love how you turn down the photos. *snugs you some more*

I just wanted to say thanks for keeping up with the October Song A Day thing. I'm downloading and enjoying even if I'm not commenting all the time. And I'll have some music to pay you back with once I get off my lazy ass and upload it.

And for dive bars you want to go to Philomath or Albany.

Yeah. Ew. You're the only person who would put on a cowboy hat and go to these bars with me, so I guess I'm shit outta luck. ;)

I'm pretty much always up for throwing on a cowboy hat and going to a bar with you. Where's Orlando and his big sparkly pink cowboy hat we got him at Claire's when we need them?
Oh right, living in my head. Stupid reality where we didn't go to the mall with Orlando like all the time that summer.

Ornaldo Mlooooob! Sometimes I really miss him. Even Lucy's stopped looking, which is a little sad. Although sometimes she still flips out and runs around the house like a giant spaz for no reason. I choose to believe that she's being chased by mischievous but ultimately harmless spirits.

Love me some music. Thanks for the Rock of Ages strk, btw. The one thing that annoys me about it is that they move on from the songs just as I'm getting into them, you know? WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK & ROLL.

[identity profile] lunar8i8star.livejournal.com 2010-10-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I know. But if you listen to it enough times you'll convince yourself that's the way the song is supposed to go. Or maybe that's just me. I felt totally shafted by that one. Live it's a little better because they have the "we built this city on rock and roll" line come down from the heavens like the fucking voice of god with a spotlight a couple of times before the song starts. And it just confuses the characters which makes it all the better.

I think most Broadway shows are better live. Except, you know, I feel like I don't even want to see Avenue Q because I've listened to the album so often that THAT is the show, you know? Now I've got We Built This City stuck in my head again, thanks for that. ;)
