debs: (Light of my soul after victory won)

come my beloved, let us go out into the field

From the age of nine until I graduated from college, I sang in one choir or another. I had a particularly good high school choral experience the unfortunately ruined me for everything that came after. My collegiate choir was pretty meh, a fact I was reminded of this past weekend while listening to recordings from my four year stint in their ranks, and I haven't sung in an organized group since. One of the questions people who haven't seen me in a while ask these days is "Are you singing anywhere?" No, I'm not, and this past weekend I think I realized why that is. It's not just that I'm uninterested in the local choirs available to me here, it's also that I'm no longer a soprano. Soprano is not only the section in which I feel most comfortable and secure, it's also the harmonic bit of classical music I enjoy the most. Additionally, I'm not musically gifted enough to sing alto.

So I will just have to appease my inner choral groupie by listening to classical choral music performed by others. Last year I think I talked a bit about Stile Antico and their album Song of Songs and so that's who I choose to offer today. This is a rendition of Song of Songs chapter 7, verses 11-12 composed by Orlande de Lassus and performed by the mixed chorus known as Stile Antico.

Additionally, thank you [personal profile] dissonant_dream for the yorkie. ♥

I'm an alto, too. I think most women are (am I right?). In a classical choir, it's the worst place to be. You get all of the notes that nobody else wantswhen you sing alto.

If you like barbershop, altos sing lead and sopranos sing harmony...

Most women, once they've finished puberty, are mezzos or altos. I don't necessarily miss the melody, I just miss the high parts, lol. I like those lines better (likely because it's what I'm used to). Ah well.

I love that icon. When I took Eddie into daycare the other day one of the gals asked if we had cats at home. I said yes, and she said that she's got a new 4 wk old kitten, Hobbes, whom she has to bottle-feed and that every day when she goes into the outer room to feed him, Eddie sits outside and whines until she lets him in. She said he just sits there and watches her feed Hobbes and then he'll lick the kitten's head and just generally mother it. I was like ♥__♥ Oh, Eddie. He's not terribly fond of other dogs, but he sure does like cats.

I hope you enjoy! ♥

It's a keeper. ♥ OH, OH! This is the cutest story EVER! OH EDDIE! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Please give him a pat from me! (And Lucy too!)

Actually, I am listening to this song right now!

Eddie's a total sweetheart. Or, at least that's what we think, and then he tears out of the car and across the street to chase the neighbor's cat. *sigh* Completely unpredictable, but I love him anyway. :)

Lucy's been coming upstairs to read with me lately. It's nice. Give Callie some snugs. ♥

Animals are made of win. That is all. ♥ Me and Callie had good snugs watching TV last night. Aww, Lucy! And yes. That's what dogs are for. But Eddie is such a lovely dog. ♥ ♥ ♥

There was this little insert in the paper today about the no kill shelter and one of their featured animals was this older cat named Allie and it said something like "Allie is the longest resident at Safe Haven; she's sat by and watched as many kittens get taken home and one day hopes to find a loving home of her own" and I was like ;________; If I lived alone, I would go down there today and pick her up right away. No lie. She's spayed, that's all I need to know. WAH. I'm actually still kind of distressed about it. Anyway.

Eddie has been really itching himself a lot this winter. I think there's something up with him. We're going to need to take him to the vet next week which will be fun for everyone. Oh, animals.

Oh, that's awful. It makes me so sad. :( I hope she's been claimed by some wonderful people who will give her the wonderful home she deserves. This is why I don't get kittens anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love kittens, but there are so many older cats who need and deserve good homes. It's why we got Lucky and Bruce. Callie wasn't from a home but it's why I took her as well. And Mum and I have both said that when something happens to Floyd and Callie (*sob* on both counts) we will both get a pair of older cats who need a home. Older cats have just as much love to give. Sorry, this makes me really sad. :(
