this film we once saw was reviled for it's flaws, but it's flaws were what made us have fun

There are times when I get bored with music. I don't want to listen to anything I own, and everything just seems like the same tired stuff that's been playing on the radio since forever. Even bands/albums that I've loved since I first heard them become old-hat, which is depressing.

And then I'll buy a new album by a band with whom I'm not overly familiar, and something will click inside, and I'll remember why I love music.

The song for today is by Okkervil River, from their new album The Stand-Ins. I came late to the party in terms of this band, but I want to live in Stand-Ins and it's predecessor, The Stage Names. Whenever I hear these albums now I will think of driving south through the mountains.

"Singer Songwriter" by Okkervil River

I recently got the fire.fm add on thing for Mozilla, and it takes my fave artists and selects music to play on my browser that it thinks I might like. I can tailor it a bit more by specifying which songs I love and which should be banned, but I'm listening to stuff I haven't listened to in ages, and hearing artists I wouldn't normally have done.

I was reading an article the other day about how "smart" technology is getting, how by cataloging existing interests of an individual machines/websites/etc are able to predict future preferences yadda yadda yadda. I'm on the fence about it in general, but I find the whole thing intriguing. Is that an online radio type of deal? What's the setup?

Have you seen the new Genius thing in ITunes?

This radio thing is an add on to your web brower, sits in it like a toolbar. You sign up to a profile, and keep yourself logged in, and based on the artists you list as your favourite, it finds artists who are similar in style and genre.
