debs: (But I can't leave this world behind)

About the only things that me and the guys in back at work agree on are 1). The Zombie Apocalypse is a distinct possibility, and 2). John Prine is awesome. Earlier this year I picked up the Prine tribute album, Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows because Josh Ritter covered "Mexican Home" but it was The Avett Brothers' cover of "Spanish Pipedream" that really did it for me. I love that song in general and their down-home sound fits it perfectly. Makes me feel like it's springtime even though it's cold and dreary outside.

The thing about John Prine's music is that I think it could be used as a blueprint for Life, particularly this song.

Also, I wanted to wish [personal profile] ames1010 a very happy birthday! I hope Chicago was all you wanted it to be. :)

My parents love John Prine, so he has a special place in my music heart. I hadn't heard the Avett cover (I think I'm the only person in the state of NC who doesn't know and own every single thing the Avett Brothers have ever done), so thank you for this. :)

You're very welcome. :) I love it when one band I love covers music by another artist that I love. I am jealous of NC for spawning The Avett Brothers because I think they are just a breath of fresh air.

I never got Josh's cover of Mexican Home. I am a bad fan. But thank you for this one! I like their sound.

You know I've got you covered. ;) Mexican Home (https://www.yousendit.com/download/WTNMa3NlZ2p6NE5FQlE9PQ).

I absolutely love The Avett Brothers; they feel so real and unaffected, you know? ♥

The state of NC really does seem to be quite proud of them, which is nice. The few songs of theirs I've heard I really like, I just for some reason really struggle to get into new (to me) artists, so I haven't quite gotten there yet. Plus the people on my facebook feed that rave about them are . . . questionable. But, I trust you and your taste in music, so I think I'll go buy something of theirs now. :) *wanders off to iTunes*

I love it when places cling to their musicians; Portland has quite a few that they're proud of, but my hometown can only boast Chris Botti and Meredeth Brooks. Whoo! :P

Plus the people on my facebook feed that rave about them are . . . questionable.

That makes me laugh because I know what you mean. If you like, I can email you some of my favorites.

Well, NC produced Clay Aiken and Fantasia whatshername, too, so our track record isn't exactly spectacular. :P

That would be awesome as long as it's not too much of a pain for you to send them. Thank you!

Oh, so you've got Idols. I see. ;P My high school English teacher adores Clay Aiken.

I'll put together a zip file this weekend and send them along, then! :)
