A little atmospheric cowboy music for your Supernatural Friday night. I, like a lot of folks, was introduced to Ryan Bingham through the film Crazy Heart (he wrote the Oscar winning theme song, "The Weary Kind"). I remember taking a gander at his first album, Mescalito, when it dropped in 2007 but at the time the twang of it wasn't quite my style. However, I'm really enjoying this year's Junky Star so I might have to give his older stuff another try. His voice has this wonderful dusty quality somewhat reminiscent of Tom Petty and I love me some good old fashioned country desperation songs. LOL, iTunes says that his songs "convey the same sort of grim fatalism and smoldering romance that pervades the novels of Cormac McCarthy." How can you not love it? ;) Seems appropriate for the night ahead.

Still haven't seen Crazy Heart. Was kind of bummed that he won the Oscar instead of Colin Firth so apparently I have an unofficial boycott going on. I don't know. OH MY GOD I must watch Big Lebowski. Jeez, I need more hours in the day.

Ooh, I like that description! ;D Downloading as I type, thank you!

Crazy Heart is okay. Not a great film, but not terrible either. I enjoyed the music more than the story/acting. And Bridges won for Big Lebowski--which, yes, is necessary viewing--but we all know that Colin Firth won in our hearts.

I need more hours in my life. :P It's only 6:10am here, but as soon as I drink my tea I must go battle the darkness outside to take the dog for a walk 'cause I still have to shower and dry/straighten my hair and dress to be ready to go at eight for this graduation thing. BLERG. What I want to do is sit here in my pjs, finish up The Solitude of Prime Number (saddest book I've read in a long long time) and write more on this 5x20 coda fic. Alas.

I kind of love it when people relate music to literature and vice-versa. It's an apt comparison in this case, I think.

I just get aggravated by how some of the wins go. I am still pissed that Gwyneth won for Shakespeare In Love and not Cate for Elizabeth. Why am I still pissed about that? Seriously?

I love it when it's true and not just people being weird or pretentious. ;)
