I'm not carefree, no, I'm free to care
Oct. 2nd, 2009 07:40 pmBack in July I posted about Monsters of Folk. To refresh the memory, Monsters of Folk is the moniker of the folk-rock super group comprised of Mike Mogis, Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes), M. Ward, and Yim Yames/Jim James (of My Morning Jacket). I've enjoyed all these gentlemen separately for a number of years, and I was thrilled to see they had put together a new album of songs. Each member has their own unique style and their individual sounds shine through clearly in their "respective" songs, but I think the reason the album holds together is that instead of being discordant or jarring the combination creates something organic and refreshing. It's good end-of-summer driving music.
The album is a nice throwback to the super groups of yesteryear, and it has almost a dated quality to it. If you enjoy any of the individual acts, or if you are a fan of Crosby, Stills & Nash, or Traveling Wilburys, I suggest giving these a shot.
