During one of my more angst-ridden moments, I mentioned to my mother that I wanted to be someone else. When she asked me who, the answer was automatic. I want to be Patty Griffin. Like Josh Ritter, Hem, Peter Mulvey, and a few select others, Patty's music makes me feel in a way few things do nowadays. Elation tempered with memory.
