I'll admit that I came shamefully late to the Barenaked Ladies party. While I spent a lot of the 90s enjoying "Shoebox", they turned me off with "One Week" (which, oddly, I now love) and I didn't get plugged back in until sometime in college when a friend of mine became obsessed with the Greatest Hits v.I album. Now they are one of the bands I wish I had made the effort to see live while they were still whole.

I find their music to be just the right blend of peppy and poignant, and the lyrics are generally smart and grin-inducing. This is one of their simpler ones, but it's also one of my favorites. I've always thought it as a letter of warning written to me (I identify with it a little too much).

Also, hello new/old Dar Williams album. I do not care that I own everything on here, I'm buying you because of the acoustic recordings with awesome people like Sean & Sara Watkins and Patty Larkin, thank you.

"One Week" was the first BNL song I ever heard and I fell completely in love with the song the moment I heard it.

and the lyrics are generally smart and grin-inducing

\o/ I'm slightly sad that BNL isn't all that well known out here, because they totally should be.

"One Week" was severely overplayed here in the states when I was about fifteen years old, and the over-saturation turned me off for a long time. I've just recently come into great love for the song, particularly live or acoustic versions.

BNL has kind of faded here, too, due in large part to the departure of Steven Page in 2009. It's just not the same anymore. *nostalgic sigh*

BL make me flash to CtMB because of If I Had... ♥ ANYWAY. I love their version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with Sarah McLachlan but I haven't listened to all their stuff. I will have to rectify that. I love this one though, thank you. I love acoustic stuff.

Yay for new/old Dar!

Yes, BNL are my CtMB music of choice. :D It fits so well with Mike's whole vibe, you know? ♥ I don't think I've heard that duet with SML.

I'm intrigued by the new/old Dar because I'm not sure I concur with all the song choices on the Greatest Hits part of the album. But I am enjoying the acoustic versions. (Speaking of, WHEN IS JOSH'S NEXT ACOUSTIC ALBUM COMING, OMG.)

Although now I think they'd have a serious dance routine for It's Tricky. I wonder where that came from. ;) But oh, I love If I Had... so much. ♥ that 'verse.

Sent! Because you need it. I am listening to it right now. Too early you say? Never! Bring on the Christmas music!

I do find those choices strange sometimes. But yay for acoustic versions, particularly JOSH! Come on Josh, we needs it!
