Today is my sister's 25th birthday. Today is also the birthday of my absolute Favorite, one Mr. Josh Ritter. You've all heard me talk about him before, so I'll just say that he's one of the greatest lyricists recording today, the most engaging performer I've had the pleasure of seeing, and no one on this earth makes me happier. He's playing up in Spokane in a few weeks and I am heartsick that I probably won't be able to make it. It saddens me that he doesn't make to Portland as often as he used to.
I'm putting up two again tonight; the first, "Another New World", is one of my favorite tracks from his most recent release So Runs the World Away. It is also maybe the saddest song I've heard in years. Makes my heart hurt to listen to it, but I can't help it because the images are so beautiful. This particular version is the solo Daytrotter acoustic recording.
Second, I'm putting up a live recording of him covering Bruce Springsteen's "The River". He is a huge Springsteen fan and usually performs this at his acoustic shows. ♥

Okay, Josh. Now you just have to announce your 2011 United Kingdom tour so that
dissonant_dream can finally make true on the promise you made me last summer. \o/

Date: 2010-11-21 12:50 pm (UTC)I have a handful of live T&S tracks that you sent me in 2008 - is it those?
He sang a new song at my show, I think, but I forgot to discuss with you because I suck. And now I can't remember.
But you have a new show! You do! I want one soon! Then we can make plans! Too many !!! Oh noes! But it's Josh!

Date: 2010-11-26 03:35 pm (UTC)No, they did some for Daytrotter more recently. I've ysi'd you the zip file. :)
Josh needs to be more informative with his new songs; we need this information!
I do! \o/ Even if it is at the crappy Crystal. ;) Josh needs to go back to Oxford.

Date: 2010-12-12 11:09 am (UTC)I'm so sorry, I totally forgot to download it and the link expired and you're so awesome and I'm such a goober. :(
We do!
I'm sorry again about your show, I think it's crap. I had that happen to me at work once years ago with a Jewel show. Josh needs to put up an Oxford date and you need to be here. *snugs*

Date: 2010-12-12 05:29 pm (UTC)No worries; I've resent it. :)
Have decided to say fuck it and go to the show anyway. Which reminds me that on Monday I need to tell boss LP about this. I won't get to do my entire plan of awesome, but I should still be able to make the show. My parents basically sat me down and gave me a lecture on how I shouldn't just give up one of the few things that makes my life worth living because of work. I tend to agree. Fuck that job and my coworkers who think that everything is always about them. (Sorry, this is just a sore point for me right now.)
But yes, Josh needs more UK dates. I have a sinking feeling the April London shows might be it for the year and that makes me really glum in the face.

Date: 2011-01-02 11:16 am (UTC)GOOD. I'm glad your parents did that because it's true. Work shouldn't rule your life. Especially your work because it's evil and must die. Have you got things sorted?
No, he'll be here, I have faith. :)

Date: 2011-01-03 04:13 pm (UTC)We saw the preview for the movie "The Company Men" last night and the tag line was "We give our lives to work, now it's time to take them back." That's my new motto. I care too much about this job that I hate. Meh. I'm taking off early the afternoon of the concert and coming in late the next day. I really wanted to take all of the next day off, but I can't, which bugs me. Flarg. Oh well.
I will cling to your faith with little spider monkey paws.

Date: 2011-01-23 12:07 pm (UTC)Oh, what's that movie about? I'm intrigued. And apparently too lazy to find out for myself, sorry. ;) But it's hard. I can't not care about my job. It's wired into me to care. But your job is evil and it makes me sad when it brings you down. I'm glad you've worked something out.
Do you think it's to do with the whole marriage situation? Because that might make him tour less. Poor Josh. :(

Date: 2011-01-25 04:03 pm (UTC)Um...it's about middle-aged dudes who lose their jobs due to the downturned economy, and have to figure out what to do with their lives? I think? It's got Ben Affleck & Kevin Costner--two actors I don't watch--so I kind of stopped paying attention. I care too much about this monkey job. I guess it's good that I maintain a high level of proficiency, but I still feel like I care too much compared to what I get paid.
I don't know. I get the impression that he's had a rough winter, but he seems to be jumping back into the touring. We'll see what I think after his show in February. He's doing that rash of Valentine's Day Brawls, and maybe that will lift his spirits. *josh snugs*

Date: 2011-02-13 01:01 pm (UTC)Yes, I can never get enthused about Kevin Costner, and rarely about Ben Affleck. I do want to see The Town though. The thing is, it's hard. Because caring is good, most of the time. How are things going at the moment?
When exactly is your show? ♥ It will work out and we will see him together, yes. *snugs of Josh*
