I'm sorry, but this? Is wrong.

Idaho gov calls for wolf kill

BOISE, Idaho - Idaho's governor said Thursday he will support public hunts to kill all but 100 of the state's gray wolves after the federal government strips them of protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter told The Associated Press that he wants hunters to kill about 550 gray wolves. That would leave about 100 wolves, or 10 packs, according to a population estimate by state wildlife officials.

Hat tip to [livejournal.com profile] blackchaps for the link.

I am not a hunter nor do I believe that hunting should qualify as a "sport" or a tourist venture. I concede that if farmers are losing livestock to wolves or coyotes they should be allowed to defend their property, but to hunt and destroy a species of animals that has been in a constant struggle simply to survive is a travesty. It puts me in mind of a few years ago when the U.S. lifted the wild horse/mustang protection, and it makes me sad.

ESPECIALLY an animal that is only *just* being removed from the endangered species list!! Does he want to make it endangered again?!?!

It really pissed me off. And you know, I never hear of anyone complaining about Mountain Lions, and they actually kill people. It's always the wolves. *grrrr!*

Yeah, what the heck is up with that? There are all sorts of books out there that talk about the human misconception of wolves. They're a lot more crucial to the food chain than we give them credit for, I think.

It makes me angry, too. And I feel frustratingly helpless.

Clement Leroy "Butch" made me sick when I read that he said that. This state is amazing but the people we put in power leave something to be desired. I hope he gets bit on the ass literally by a wolf if he gets to be one of the first to go hunt wolves.

Arrrrghhhh... I wish I could go train the wolves to shoot back. : )

Amen, brother. Today's hunting is not even remotely fair. Or sportsmanlike. Or anything other than murder.

One of the lines in the local article said something about people coming out against hunting them from Helicopters if hunting them becomes legal. WTF?!

Why would they even let that be legal in the first place. I am going to have to look up the state hunting laws. I am getting very irratated about this whole Canadian Wolves thing. Thinking it is time to start writing letters again. : )
