McSweeney's is having a BOOK SALE. Books now from $1 - $15. I just bought four hardbacks for $25, and three of them were books I had been meaning to get but are not available in my hometown anymore. Awesome.
Maps & Legends (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/index.cfm/fuseaction/catalog.detail/object_id/76fc5374-074c-4d8c-bf88-af2bc01bc1c0/MapsandLegends.cfm) by Michael Chabon, in the awesome hardback edition.
The Children's Hospital (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/index.cfm/fuseaction/catalog.detail/object_id/a9bedcde-47af-41ca-b146-4b4bbea9f44b/TheChildrensHospital.cfm) by Chris Adrian, which may become May's book group read (head's up)
How We Are Hungry (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/index.cfm/fuseaction/catalog.detail/object_id/7afd5f72-97a1-45c0-909c-70d110dab4ce/HowWeAreHungry.cfm) by Dave Eggers, because I love the binding
and Lady Into Fox (http://store.mcsweeneys.net/index.cfm/fuseaction/catalog.detail/object_id/0b938c60-7b64-42e1-bce1-123499b81e18/LadyIntoFox.cfm) by David Garnett because I'm intrigued by the story, and again, I love the way it looks. I'm easy when it comes to books, apparently.
Also, I should not have gone back to the store. There are five or six others I want now. NUUUUUU!
Please to be letting me know what they're like when you've read them, because now I want them all ;) And if Children's Hospital is May's, I will be happy. It looks fab.
Oh, yes. I love me some books. I'll buy books for their covers, their title, their plot, anything. I just love books.
I am so excited for them! And I'm sure I'll be spamming you about them once I've read. ;)
I've been keeping my eyes open for stuff to do for May, but everything I've picked up has felt too much like stuff we've already done, which is insane considering we've only really done two books. I was looking at Charles Bocks "Beautiful Children" but that seemed to have echoes of Going Out, and "The Soul Thief" was too much like SotW. Maybe for later.
I think I need to put myself on a book buying hiatus until I read what I already own. ;P
Definitely for later. I think I've only read about half the books I own. Which is appalling. But I can't stop buying new ones. It's a sickness, I think.
Okay, so, if it is going to May's book, could you please let me know a little sooner? I hate to be pesty, but it's on a 1-3 week ship so will take a little longer than usual for me to procure ;)
You're not pesty at all; it's good to know 'cause I'll announce it earlier in case everyone else has a problem, too. Also, if I don't make it May's book choice it might sit on my shelf in book purgatory forever until I get up the ambition to read it! ;D
Case in point, Brief History of the Dead. I'd actually love it if we were to do this for book group. As long as you're really sure you don't mind reading it again.....
Thank you ♥ I have ordered it, and the April choice too. It's all happening! Book purgatory is something I'm entirely too familiar with, and wish I wasn't. That's why I picked Shadow of the Wind *g*
