I feel like something needs to be cleared up, hence, public post.
I've seen a lot of anger online about Misha Collins' inclusion as a series regular in Supernatural. A lot of this anger seems to be based on why he and not Jim Beaver (who has been on the show off and on since s.1) has been elevated beyond Guest Star.
At the Vancouver convention, Jim told us that he was offered series regular status, with both the job security and the financial benefits that would entail. Unfortunately, it would have basically necessitated his moving to Canada, and he didn't want to disrupt the life of his daughter, Maddie, and so he declined.
Misha has not been promoted in place of Jim Beaver. Let's move on, kids.

Date: 2009-09-23 12:41 am (UTC)Man, I love this show more than I have loved any television show ever. I love it in ways that are probably considered unhealthy. I'd say I spend at least 60% of my days thinking about the show/the actors/etc (although, to be fair, this is because my job is excruciatingly boring and I can devote this time because let's face it, I'm not thinking about anything else). I do not understand the level of obsession that runs in some parts of this fandom.

Date: 2009-09-27 08:25 pm (UTC)I have never loved a program enough to go to a convention, I've never felt so personally invested in characters on a tv show, and never cared about their lives and fate so much, but God, I love that I can feel that, and that I can make fantastic friends because of it.

Date: 2009-09-23 03:07 pm (UTC)I think the biggest difference for me is time. I feel like I've passed over the hump of psychotic fandom now and I have no trouble separating my love and interest in the show itself from my love for the fic-ish or fannish side of things. I wish other folks could do the same.

Date: 2009-09-23 02:32 pm (UTC)I like the Dean/Cas pairing (don't hold that against me...maybe I'll ship Sam/Lucifer next, hee), but then I also want Dean to forgive Sammy since Dean has been acting like a tool lately. I mean, hello, apocalypse! Sam should be the only one on the entire Earth he wants at his side during this mess, not God-hunting or whatever dumb shit he's doing with Castiel and the Magical Amulet of Plot Devices.
I want someone to tell Dean to cowboy up, become a meat suit for St. Michael, and get this over with already!
Also: Go Sam!

Date: 2009-09-23 07:30 pm (UTC)I have no problem with the idea of Dean/Cas, and I totally see it in the show itself. If authors I love write it, I'll read it. What I have a problem with are the folks who are saying things along the lines of “Sam hasn’t been relevant to the show since season two. He should’ve stayed dead.” I soundly disagree, and not just as a Sam fan, but as a fan of the show itself. The thing that I am perhaps the most apprehensive about this season is that it will become the Dean-and-Cas-...and-maybe-Sam show. But I have faith that bridges will be mended and the apocalypse will bring everyone together (lol).
I couldn't stop laughing when Castiel said he was going to "find God." It was just so over the top ridiculous. Why I don't mind the MAoPD (or Samulet, as some folks have taken to calling it) is mostly because I like emotional Dean-whumpage. ;) 5x02 he offered Castiel & Sam the two props that have most noticeably represented him throughout the series, which felt very canon for me. I think he is more scared and feels more out of control this season than in the four seasons past and that's what's driving the character at this point. Panic warring with weariness, and I think it's a relief for Dean when they split at the end of 5x02 if only because that's one less thing he has to worry about for awhile (not that he'll ever really stop worrying about Sam, but he can at least pretend a little outta sight, outta mind.) I'm decidedly bi-bro, and I don't take too much offense with the way the show is treating them so far this season.
This is just speculation, but I would love (LOVE) it if the big showdown at the end of this season was actually Dean-Michael vs. Sam-Lucifer. But, yes, I really hope there is a payoff in the Dean angel condom thing. This needs to happen. I need to see Jensen play that.
Whooooo, SAM! *fist-pump* When I started watching the series I was totally prepared to dislike that character, but he's grown on me to the point where if I'm continually pressed, I will say that I'm more of a Sam girl than a Dean girl. Big thanks to both Jared & the writers for making that happen. Someone once said something along the lines of "how can you be a Dean girl and hate Sam when Sam is the most important thing in Dean's life?" They are a unit. Love 'em.
Okay, lunch time is over and I should stop rambling at you anyway. :P
