A little late tonight; had a long day.
I've been mainlining the second season of The Tudors for the last few days (shut it, you all watch True Blood), and it put me of a mind to pull out my Méav cds.
Méav Ní Mhaolchatha is a singer from Ireland. She first grew to acclaim with the group Anuna (the original Riverdance band), and released two solo albums before joining up with Celtic Women. I started listening to Méav in the late nineties, and in my opinion she did her best work before shackling herself to the PBS schlock that was Celtic Women. She is so much better than that. I see that in the coming year she will be solo once again and performing with the New York Pops Orchestra at Carnige Hall.
Méav is perhaps my favorite vocalist; her soprano is one of the clearest, most pristine I've heard. She performs classical and traditional music with a wonderful tenderness. I couldn't decide which song to upload, so I picked three, the first of course being the Henry VIII inspired ballad "The Death of Queen Jane."
"The Death of Queen Jane"
(yousendit) (sendspace)
"You Brought Me Up"
(yousendit) (sendspace)
"One I Love" (If you only download one, I'd choose this one. It's haunting and gorgeous)
